Your Eagle Crest area guide

Redmond, Central Oregon

Eagle Crest Resort sits on the rim of the Deschutes River canyon outside Redmond, with golf courses and pools on site and Smith Rock, Sisters and Bend all close by. Here is how to make the most of a stay.

Golf at the resort

Eagle Crest is one of Central Oregon's year-round golf resorts, with the longest golf season in the region. The Ridge Course stays open all winter, the Resort Course plays 6,673 yards from the tips, and the par-63 Challenge Course rewards a sharp short game. An 18-hole putting course keeps it fun for every age, and juniors 17 and under play free in the afternoons. PGA professionals run lessons, clinics and golf schools from the pro shop.

Courses: Ridge (year-round), Resort, Challenge (par 63), plus an 18-hole putting course
Kids: Juniors 17 and under play free in the afternoons
Lessons: PGA instruction, clinics and golf schools

Sports centers and pools

Three sports centers are spread around the resort. The Ridge Sports Center has a year-round indoor lap pool, hot tubs, the spa, and basketball and pickleball courts. The Resort Sports Center adds a sauna, racquetball, bike rentals, a game room and a seasonal outdoor pool. Lakeside Sports Center is the summer favorite, with an outdoor infinity pool, kids splash park, tennis and pickleball. Fitness classes run at all three.

Outdoors around the resort

Cline Butte trails
The resort sits below Cline Butte, and the BLM's Cascade View Trailhead is just off Eagle Crest Boulevard: about 5.6 miles of hiking and horse trails plus 3.9 miles of signed mountain bike single-track, free and day-use. The reward is a wide Cascade panorama.
Steelhead Falls
A half-mile walk down to a waterfall on the Deschutes River, a few minutes from the resort. Wildflowers in spring, golden eagles overhead, and rocky shores for a picnic or a cast. Managed by the BLM, no fee.
Deschutes River canyon
The resort rims the canyon of the Deschutes. Sunset walks along the rim and quiet mornings with coffee above the river are part of the rhythm of a stay here.

Day trips

Smith Rock State Park
About 25 minutes away in Terrebonne. Towering river-carved cliffs, thousands of climbing routes, and miles of hiking and biking trails. Watch for golden eagles and river otters. Open dawn to dusk year-round; day-use parking fee.
Redmond
The closest town, with a walkable downtown, coffee shops, food-truck pods and General Duffy's Waterhole, an indoor-outdoor taphouse and music venue with five food trucks. 10 min drive.
Sisters
A western-frontier-themed town at the foot of the Three Sisters, with galleries, bakeries, boutiques and the famous Sisters Rodeo each June. 25 min drive.
Bend
Central Oregon's hub: the Old Mill District, the Deschutes River through town, the High Desert Museum and more breweries than you can count. 20 min drive.
Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway
A summer classic out of Bend past a dozen alpine lakes, with swimming, paddling and trailheads along the way. The highway is seasonal; it typically opens in mid-May and closes with the first big snows. Some trailheads need a recreation pass and a Central Cascades Wilderness Permit in summer. 1 hour drive.

Eat and drink

You can eat well without leaving the resort. Aerie Café in The Lodge serves breakfast daily with Sisters Coffee Company espresso. Silverleaf Cafe & Market in the Clocktower Building covers coffee, pastries, pizza, tacos and a small grocery. Greenside Cafe does sandwiches, salads and burgers by the Ridge Course pro shop, and the Dog Leg Café pours Deschutes Brewery beers on its patio overlooking the Resort Course. For dinner, Niblick & Greene's does burgers, flatbreads, seafood and steak, with a full bar and game-day TVs in Brassie's Bar. Downtown Redmond's many dining options are just ten minutes away.

Seasons at Eagle Crest

Summer: Long sunny high-desert days. Outdoor pools and the splash park are open, patios are busy, and the Cascade Lakes highway is in season. Book tee times and dinners ahead.
Fall: Crisp mornings, golden light on the canyon, thinner crowds and some of the best golf of the year.
Winter: The Ridge Course plays all winter on many days. For snow, Hoodoo Ski Area is about 35 miles west on Santiam Pass with night skiing and a big tubing park, and Mt. Bachelor is about an hour away through Bend. Winter travel to Bachelor runs through Bend or Sunriver; the Cascade Lakes Highway closes at the mountain.
Spring: Wildflowers at Steelhead Falls, rushing water in the canyons, and cool mornings that warm fast. A lovely shoulder season for hiking Cline Butte and Smith Rock.
